Staff Advisory Council Minutes

I.                   Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by Patty Smith.

 

Approval of June, 2009 Council Minutes

Minutes were approved with attendance corrections - motion by Penny McIntyre and 2nd by Char-anna Koblick

 

II.                Committee Updates

 

Elections Committee

Benefits Committee

By-laws Committee

Nothing to report

 

Parking Appeals/Parking

The committee will not meet until August

 

Promotions Committee

Webpage Committee

A question was raised about posting the SAC agenda on the web site.  Since the    by-laws state it should occur, a place for it will be located.

 

It was pointed out that the archives page had a broken link.

 

Compassion Fund

Nothing to report

 

III.Old Business

Lori Maurer updated SAC on the leave policies that were discussed with Denise Murphy, Director of Compensation & Benefits at the last meeting.  Denise is bringing suggested revisions to HR leadership and will report back to SAC. 

 

IV.New Business

Mary Warner, HR Benefits Manager, spoke to SAC about upcoming wellness initiatives.  Mary stressed these events are put in place in order to improve employee’s health.  As a result of aggregate data received from WebMD and the Health Quotient program, Human Resources is better able to assess needs and put in programs that will improve employee wellness. When people feel good, they are more productive and happy.  Mary took questions and provided the following information:

 

Ø  To encourage employees and spouses to participate in the Health Quotient survey, screenings will be available starting on July 21st on campus.  AskHR at 1-5900 to schedule an appointment.

 

Ø  A Campus Fitness route brochure was distributed to SAC members.  The route is posted on the RecSports website.

 

Ø  A bike route map is available at Human Resources. 

Ø  Benefits Open Enrollment is scheduled for October 21-November 6

Ø  The Irish Health Event/Vendor Fair will be held on October 21 & 22 in Rolfs.  (NEW!)Flu shots for employees and spouses will be available at the event.

Ø  Kathy Gentry – Meritain representative for Notre Dame is on campus every Thursday to assist employees with claim and benefits questions.  Contact 1-5900 to schedule an appointment.

Ø  ND Retirement planning sessions are now available through Human Resources.  Sign up through Endeavor.nd.edu or contact 1-5900 for more information.

 

V.Additional Business

A question was raised regarding the Food Service and if they would be willing to make campus deliveries.  A SAC member was going to send an inquiry to Dave Prentkowski, Director of Food Services.

 

A questions was raised about the possibility of starting a campus wide community services project.  A discussion ensued about the logistics involved and department events that already exist.  Patty will follow up with the appropriate University office and report back on the feasibility of such a project.

 

Patty asked that all representatives bring their district list with them to the next meeting.  SAC will review the information, and make adjustments if necessary, prior to the elections.

 

VI.       Adjournment

Jody Klontz made a motion to adjourn at 2:15 p.m.  The motion was seconded by Penny McIntyre.
