Staff Advisory Council Minutes (draft)

1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

LaFortune Student Center

I.                   Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 1:03 p.m. by Patty Smith.

 

Approval of December, 2008 Council Minutes

Minutes were approved with corrections - motion by Adele Almaguer and 2nd by Char Koblick.

 

II.                Committee Reviews

Benefits Committee

The committee met the week of December 15th to discuss past issues.  Unsure if they will be meeting again prior to the new fiscal year.

 

By-laws Committee

The committee has been formed and will meet after the meeting or next week.  Any suggested changes to the by laws should be raised to the committee.

 

Parking Appeals

The next meeting will be in two weeks.

 

Election Committee

Representative elections are currently taking place.  Officer elections are in February.

 

New members will be present at the February meeting and new officers will be elected at that time.

 

A discussion was held regarding the lack of representation for districts #10 & #29.  The by-laws will be referenced for protocol and Lori will speak to the HR Business Partner to assist with identifying possible representatives.

 

Promotions Committee

There was a discussion held regarding the slow pick up of filled boxes during the Food Drive.

III. New Business

Kara McClure, HR Manager of Learning & Development spoke to SAC.

Kara provided the following statistics:

-50 learning programs were offered to staff “across the topic board” with 1000 participants

-SupervisingWith Impact series has 66 “graduates”

-95 sessions on Performance Management were held

-Learning @ Work program had 78 participants in Ivy Tech, 19 in English as a Second Language and 10 in GED

-60 staff came to the interest session for the IU Master’s program

 

ND was named 2008 Business of the Year by the local chapter of Society for Human Resources Management as a result of the above programs for staff.

 

Kara spoke about trends in training and new initiatives that are in the planning stages.  She encouraged all staff to take advantage of these opportunities. 

 

Kara ended her presentation by taking a number of questions from the group.

 

 

IV.Additional Business

-SAC thanked Amy Davis and Julie DeBuysser for their service.

 

-A question was raised about the possibility of a staff discount at campus food locations.  SAC will contact Dave Prentkowski to discuss.

 

-A concern was raised regarding the inconsistency of offices closing early prior to holiday breaks.  Questions of pay equity when offices close early was discussed.  Lori will raise this with HR leadership and SAC members were encouraged to discuss concerns with their department leadership and HR Business Partner.

 

 V.       Adjournment

Mo Marnocha made a motion to adjourn at 2:30 p.m.  The motion was seconded by Amie Davis.
