Staff Advisory Council Minutes

I.   Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 1:06 p.m. by Patty Smith.   

Approval of July 2011 Council Minutes

Minutes were approved - motion by James Stevens and 2nd by Kathy Troth

 

II.   Committee Updates

Benefits Committee

Nothing to report

A concern was raised about the retiree health insurance change.

 

Parking Appeals

The next meeting is on August 14.

 

Ad Hoc Parking

No news

 

Promotions Committee

SAC would like to get more involved with United Way events that would in turn lead to a higher donation rate for the Compassion Fund.  Encourage employees to attend fundraisers. 

Patty has invited Jessica Brookshire to a SAC meeting but there are scheduling conflicts. 

  

Webpage Committee

Exploring the new ND “branding” requirements for the web page.  Agency ND was contacted for more information.

 

ECDC

No news

 

Compassion Fund

One request was received in the past month for $500.00. New language has been added to the application. The changes to the requirements for the Compassion Fund were discussed.

Dee Dee Sterling responded to the question regarding why individuals from an outside agency are on the committee. 

 

III.   New Business

Sharon Hawkins, Sr. HR Consultant Athletics, was the guest speaker.  Sharon explained her background, experience and education to SAC members.  She talked about her role and philosophy in approaching her work with University leaders, managers and employees.  Sharon then answered questions from the group about her role and various work place topics. 

Books that go out to the student, has coupons for local businesses. Can the employees at ND get discounts? Encourage employees to ask restaurant ect.

A discussion was held regarding protocol for job postings.  Questions were raised regarding preference for internal positions.  Members described applying for many positions and not getting interviews.

Learning at work, what is the push.

 

IV.   Old Business

Denise Murphy follow up to question regarding adjusted hire date on website.

Jeff Korros was contacted regarding the signs in the D-6 parking lot.  Jeff reports that the extra signage along the fence line, facing the lake have been installed and that he is ordering replacement signs along the older edge of D-6 north. 

Speed bumps have been installed in front of Stepan Center.
