Staff Advisory Council Minutes

Thursday, March 8, 2012 1:00 p.m.

LaFortune Student Center

I.                Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 1:04 p.m. by Patty Smith

 

February minutes were reviewed and approved with attendance revisions and one additional clarification- motion by Kathy Seymour with a 2nd by LaMinda Wilson

II.            Committee Updates and description of assignment for new members:

Benefits Committee
Nothing to report

Parking Appeals
Two meetings were held; reviewed a total of 50 appeals.  As a result of some information from one appeal, NDSP is going to clarify who can park by the Campus Services signs.

Ad Hoc Parking  
Nothing to report

Promotions Committee
The last Holy Cross Harvest food drive meeting was on March 5.  Notre Dame raised $14,829 and collected 2091 pounds of food.  The drive was a success.

 

SAC members discussed the upcoming Relay for Life and possible involvement.

Compassion Fund
No news

Webpage Committee

New site is easy to navigate and got positive feedback.

ECDC
There is a meeting in April and a tour of the facilities at ND and SMC in May.

Elections Committee
no news

 

III.           New Business

SAC discussed the NDFCU account that has been made available to employees to save for football tickets.  There was some confusion about the information and at the credit union on the process.

 

Tracy Skibins from NDSP was the guest speaker.  Tracy reviewed the Crimereports.com website with SAC.  Over 750 police agencies are participating.  She reviewed how to navigate the site and answered questions.

 

A question was raised regarding ND’s policy on children in the workplace.  This issue has been raised within HR and Risk Management.  HR Consultant Laura Picking is reviewing the situation that was raised.

 

The south side steps in the Stepan Center parking lot need a railing.  Doug Marsh’s office will be contacted to make the request.

A question was raised regarding parking privileges for residence hall matrons and hostesses during commencement housing.  Jeff Korros will be contacted for a response.

Some feedback for vendor Aon Hewitt and the dependent verification audit was discussed.  Contact information can be obtained from AskHR to share concerns.

IV.          Additional Business

A concern was raised regarding employees who do not have easy access to computers which means that they do not get University information on a daily basis.  The “digital divide” is being researched and plans are in place to address the issue.  This may be a future speaker idea.

A question was raised regarding the shuttle bus route.  Patty will look into inquiring about requesting additional stops.

                A brief discussion was held regarding the size of recycling bins on campus.
