Claire grew up in South Bend under the Golden Dome. Her Grandfather, Father, two Uncles, various Cousins, her Brother, and now Nephew have attended the University all of the same last names as Dettling. So Claire feels working here for 23 years seems quite fitting. She is also a graduate of Saint Mary's College. Claire's first position with the University was in the College of Arts and Letters, working for two of the Philosophy Department's Endowed Chairs. She began her employment on the 8th floor of Flanner Hall where she worked for 15 years until the department moved to Decio Family Hall. Five years later, Claire became the Administrative Assistant in the Computer Applications Program (CAPP) and in 2012, simultaneously took on the challenge of being the Business Manager in the Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic (NDJFL) Department. In 2015 the CAPP program dissolved and became Idzik Computing and Digital Technologies (MCDT). Claire continued to perform the 3 roles until the end of 2022. Recently, in January 2023, Claire joined the Notre Dame Law School as a Faculty Support Administrative Assistant.

Within the past 23 years, Claire was married and added 4 children to her household of 2 from a previous marriage. She does face some challenges caring for her youngest who has down syndrome and autism. Claire strives to be a soft-hearted and extremely patient and a strong source of support for others. Her life outside of the University is encompassed by her children and enjoying her three young grandchildren. Claire hopes that one day she will be able to travel more and focus on her own personal interests as her kids move on into their adult lives. With all that Claire has endured in her personal life, the people at Notre Dame have been extremely helpful and caring to her needs. Claire loves being a part of the Notre Dame community.
